Grade K-1 students flipped through some Ranger Rick magazines to select an animal to draw. Their instructions were to use their eyes and search for familiar shapes in the animals. Then they needed to use their eyes to follow the outline of the animal, seeing how all the shapes were connected. The studied how their animal was covered with some kind of pattern or texture, but then made up their own colorful art pattern to decorate the animal in its "party suit." We outlined the marker drawing with oil pastel, then finished the picture with cake tempera paints. Some exciting results!
